About the Department
The Department of German and Russian Studies was established in 2006 and provides students with opportunities to study the language, literature, cinema and culture of German-speaking Europe and Russian in Eurasia.
America has many long-established social and cultural ties with the nations of the German-speaking world: Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Today, proficiency and cultural competence in German have become important for anyone engaged in international commerce, research, technology, and the arts. The Department offers a Major in German, a Minor in German, and a Minor in German Studies.
The Russian Studies program is a multidisciplinary course of study, which combines the Russian language with courses related to Russian civilization, culture, history, politics and economics. A major goal is to provide an understanding of the relationship between the United States and Russia in the aftermath of the Cold War.
