About the Department

Hispanic culture is an integral part of the United States, the 2^nd most populated country of Hispanics. Spanish is the principal language of 21 countries and the third most spoken language in the world. The department offers Portuguese, the seventh most spoken language in the world, and used in eight countries on four continents. Knowledge of Portuguese, Spanish and their respective cultures prepares students to function effectively in the global community.
