Graduation

Application for Graduation

Degrees

Students must formally apply to graduate online via MyCharleston in the term in which they expect to complete all degree requirements. Students should review their degree audit in Degree Works in consultation with their academic advisor before applying to determine eligibility for graduation. The audit will list remaining degree requirements as well as requirements completed and in-progress. The audit assumes successful completion of courses in progress. Any discrepancies should be reported to degreeworks@cofc.edu.

Students are ultimately responsible for ensuring that they have met all degree requirements for graduation. More information concerning graduation can be found on the Office of the Registrar website.  Information concerning commencement ceremonies may be found on the Commencement Website.

Certificates

Certificates will be awarded and posted on a student’s transcript at the end of the fall, spring, or summer term in which they apply for recognition of an undergraduate certificate. The College of Charleston does not recognize completion of certificate programs as part of commencement ceremonies. Students should apply online using the “apply to graduate” link via MyCharleston in the term in which they expect to complete the certificate requirements.

Credential Application Dates

The credential application deadline is October 1st for fall awarding and posting, February 1st for spring awarding and posting, and March 15th for summer awarding and posting. The Graduation Application is required before a credential will be awarded. All students are expected to monitor their College of Charleston e-mail account on a regular basis.  Notifications regarding a student’s graduation status will be e-mailed to this account only.

Changes to Programs of Study after Application for Graduation

All undergraduate students must declare all majors (concentrations, cognates, and tracks, if applicable), minors, and certificates, regardless of when completion of these programs of study is intended, prior to applying for graduation. Students who have applied to graduate and need to update their program of study must complete the Graduation Update Form (PDF) and submit it to the Office of the Registrar.

Credential Conferral Dates

There are three credential conferral dates (when credentials are awarded and posted):

  1. Fall is in December
  2. Spring is in May
  3. Summer is in August (regardless of the summer session in which requirements are completed).

The exact dates vary but coincide with the end of each term.  Please consult the academic calendar for the specific degree posting date.  Confirmation of credential posting will be indicated on the student’s official transcript by this date.
