MUSC 241 Italian and English Diction for Singers (3)

Students will be introduced to the International Phonetic Alphabet as it pertains to the pronunciation of Italian and English. Using the pronunciation rules of each language, students will be required to not only decipher the correct pronunciation of Italian and English in the notation of texts but also in spoken and singing examinations.
Course Frequency: Occasional
Note: The pronunciation of Italian and English through the learning and use of the International Phonetic Alphabet. Students learn to transcribe the orthographic letters of the languages studied into IPA symbols, using these symbols as the key to correct pronunciation within musical scores.
