AAST 320 Studies in Hip-Hop Culture (3)A variable topic course that explores the history, controversy, content, culture, and legacy of the music known as Hip-Hop. The course covers the foundational principles and evolution of Hip-Hop and its global impact. Students will conduct interpretative analysis of audio and visual texts, while combining scholarship and theory to critically engage subgenres, prominent figures, and debates in Hip-Hop. Topics/readings will vary from year to year and may include a range of global and black transnational perspectives. Course Frequency: Spring Repeatable: May be repeated for credit when course content varies.
