ANTH 307 Southeastern Indigenous Archaeology (3)This course offers a broad survey of the archaeology of Indigenous people in the southeastern United States. We will trace cultural developments as interpreted through archaeology from the initial settlement of North America, estimated at approximately 15,000 years or more before present, to present day Indigenous preservation of traditions and political sovereignty. Throughout, we will emphasize Indigenous agency and survivance and problematize the prehistoric and historic period divide. Course Frequency: Occasional
