WGST 335 Pregnancy & Birth Justice, Education, and Solidarity (3)This course examines intersectional feminist perspectives and social justice issues related to pregnancy and birth. Rooted in reproductive justice, students will explore historic and contemporary examples of institutional and interpersonal oppression against pregnant people, birthers, and their loved ones. Depending on section/course instructor, students will be exposed to some of the following: differences between medical and midwifery models, diverse gender and sexual experiences of pregnancy and birth, policing of bodies and relationships. In addition to studying resistance within this topic, students will be invited to consider how they might be in solidarity through campaigns for change. Prerequisite(s): WGST 200 or HONS 174 Course Frequency: Occasional Repeatable: May be repeated for credit when course content varies.
