About the Department

Hispanic culture is an integral part of the United States, the 2^nd most populated country of Hispanics, and Spanish is the principal language of 21 countries and the third most-spoken language in the world. The department also offers Portuguese, the planet’s seventh most-spoken language and used in eight countries on four continents. Knowledge of Portuguese, Spanish and their respective cultures gives students a substantial competitive edge in both the global community and economy.
