Why is it important to study engineering at a university like the College of Charleston? Location! Location! Location!

As you think about what it takes to be an engineer, you should be aware of the skills employers value highly. Certainly technical skills and industry knowledge count for a lot. But companies are also looking for employees who have highly developed communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

And, as the world becomes more and more complex, the engineers of tomorrow will have to work on diverse teams, have a grasp of global issues and be sensitive to cultural diversity. This global perspective will ensure that the creative designs they produce will reflect an understanding of the social, political, historical and economic context of a project.

All of these factors make the College of Charleston, with its liberal arts-based curriculum, the best place to prepare yourself for a career in engineering.

And, of course, you will be surrounded by companies such as Google, Boeing, Bosch, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Volvo, Cummins, Scientific Research Corporation, the Naval Information Warfare Center - Atlantic, and many others, including the Medical University of South Carolina, which offers the possibility of internships related to biomechanical engineering systems.
