About the Department
Bachelor of Science in Economics

The mission of the Department of Economics is to provide, through both teaching and research, a better understanding of the global, national and local economic issues that confront our society now and in the future.

The department’s teaching mission is to offer rigorous undergraduate and graduate courses that emphasize the relationship between theory and practice. The department focuses on students, incorporating independent learning experiences, extensive student-professor interaction, and the maintenance of a supportive environment for all students.

The basic objectives of the department’s degree programs are:

  • to provide our students with appropriate analytical skills;
  • to produce students who are informed, policy-literate citizens;
  • to prepare our students for successful careers; and
  • to prepare our students for graduate education.

The department’s research mission is to produce quality applied research.

NOTE: ECON 200  and ECON 201  satisfy the College’s social science requirement.
