Jewish Studies, B.A.


Major Requirements


Credit Hours: 36+

In addition to completing the requirements for this major, students must also complete the degree requirements specified in the Academic Regulations  section of this catalog.

Courses within this major may also satisfy general education requirements. Please consult the Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Requirements  for more information.

Complete one of the following language options:


Students wishing to complete the requirements for the Jewish Studies major while achieving proficiency in another language (not Hebrew, Arabic, or German) at the 202-level will require permission from the Director of the Jewish Studies Program.  Students placing out of any of the courses (101-202) in the Language through Culture requirement must still complete the minimum 36 credit hours in the program with Jewish Studies electives.

Capstone


Students are expected to read and interpret sources in the foreign language they studied for the Jewish Studies major in their independent research project.

Complete at least 3 credit hours one of the following options:

Option 3


Complete the following Bachelor’s Essay sequence. Note that 499A will count toward your electives and 499B will count toward the capstone.

Elective Requirement


Complete 15 additional credit hours from the following coursework with at least 9 credit hours are at the 300-level or above. No more than 6 credit hours at the 300-level or above in the same language sequence (ARBC, HBRW, GRMN) may apply towards the major requirements.

Note:


*These courses must have specifically Jewish content to count towards the Jewish Studies major.

Coursework Meeting Major Requirements Excluded from the Major GPA Calculation


None.  All courses that may apply toward completion of course requirements within the major apply toward the major GPA calculation.
