Major Requirements

Credit Hours: 27+

In addition to completing the requirements for this major, students must also complete the degree requirements specified in the Academic Regulations  section of this catalog.

• GRMN 313 German Conversation (3)
• GRMN 314 German Composition and Grammar (3)

400-level GRMN Course Requirement (3 credit hours)

• GRMN 468 Studies in Modern German Literature (3)
• GRMN 472 Studies in German Cinema (3)
• GRMN 490 Special Topics in German (3)
• GRMN 496 Directed Reading (1-3)
• GRMN 498 Independent Study (1-3)

• Or complete the following Bachelor’s Essay sequence. Note that 499A will count toward your electives and 499B will count toward the capstone.

Elective Requirement

Complete 18 additional credit hours. At least 12 credit hours must be taken from any GRMN course at the 300-level or higher. Up to 6 credit hours may be taken from any GRST course or the following:

• JWST 230 The Holocaust (3)
• JWST 330 Representations of the Holocaust (3)

Proficiency Exam Requirement

Majors in German Studies are required to take a proficiency exam during their last year prior to graduation. Information about the nature of the exam and the schedule for each semester is available in the department and on its website.

Notes:

• No more than 3 credit hours from GRMN 496  may be applied towards the program requirements.
• No more than 6 credit hours from GRMN 498  may be applied towards the program requirements.

Coursework Meeting Major Requirements Excluded from the Major GPA Calculation

None.  All courses that may apply toward completion of course requirements within the major apply toward the major GPA calculation.
