Archaeology Minor

Minor Requirements

Credit Hours: 22+-28+

In addition to completing the requirements for this minor, students must also complete the minor requirements specified in the Academic Regulations section of this catalog.

Required courses (10 credit hours)

Note:

Honors students can take the alternative course of HONS 168 in lieu of ANTH 202 .
Honors students can take the alternative sequence of HONS 155 /HONS 155L in lieu of GEOL 103 /GEOL 103L .

Electives (9-10 credit hours)

Students must complete at least 3 credit hours from each of the following groups: Social Sciences; Art and Humanities; and Natural Science, Data Science and Mathematics.

Social Sciences (3 credit hours)

Note:

* ARCH 290 will count towards the requirement when content is appropriate and with the approval of the archaeology program director.

Arts and Humanities (3 credit hours)

Note:

*When the subject substantially involves archaeological material.

**CLAS 121 and CLAS 122 are travel courses. Students must be able to walk moderately difficult trails.

Natural Science, Data Science, and Mathematics (3-4 credit hours)

Note:

Honors students can take the alternative course of HONS 217 in lieu of MATH 250 .

*When the subject substantially involves archaeological material.

Capstone Experience: Fieldwork (3-8 credit hours)

A hands-on application of theory and methods through fieldwork or lab work forms the capstone experience.*

ANTH 493 Field School in Archaeology (3-8)
OR
CLAS 421 Field Methods in Classical Archaeology (3-6)
OR
ANTH 494 Field Work (2-8) (when the field undertaken is in archaeology)
OR
ARCH 400 Archaeological Internship (3-6)

Note:

*Students may transfer 3 to 6 credit hours in fieldwork from another institution. This option accommodates students who have a particular interest in archaeological research outside the confines of opportunities available at the College of Charleston. Decisions upon acceptance of outside field experience will be determined by the program director.
