AAST 200 Introduction to African American Studies (3)This course is an interdisciplinary approach to the African American experience in the United States. Using a model developed by African American Studies pioneer Maulana Ron Karenga that focuses on history, religion, politics, economics, sociology, psychology and the creative arts as the essential topics in the study of the African American experience, this course provides students an understanding of the African American perspective in these areas. Primary sources by African American writers and scholars are also used to support this perspective and introduce students to the latest literature and research on the African American experience. Course Frequency: Fall and Spring
