AAST 335 Race in American Film & Media (3)This course is designed as a survey of the various ways historical and contemporary racist imagery of people of color permeate both the film industry and overall American/Global media. Students will interrogate the roots of racist stereotypes of African Americans, Native Americans, Asian/Asian American, Latinx, and Middle Easterners. Through an understanding of this history, we will assess how these stereotypes have evolved over time and the role they have played in constructing and positioning people of color in American society.
