EDFS 401 Neurodiversity: Introduction to the Exceptional Learner (3)This course is an introduction to the field of special education as well as to programs and issues related to working with children and youth who have exceptionalities. In this course, students are asked to consider neurodiverse perspectives to schooling and disability policies. The focus is on children and youth who have various disabilities, including learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, emotional and behavioral disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and communication difficulties as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Attention is given to recent research and legal and ethical issues involving students with exceptionalities and their educational programs. Course Frequency: Fall and Spring Cross-listing: EDFS 501
