CHEM 231 Organic Chemistry I (3)An introduction to the chemistry of carbon-containing compounds. A systematic study of nomenclature, structure, properties, and reactions of aliphatic and aromatic compounds. Attention is given to recent developments and interpretation of structure and reaction mechanisms. Lecture three hours per week. The Honors version of this course is HONS 192 . Students may not receive credit for both. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 112 and CHEM 112L or their equivalents. Corequisite(s): CHEM 231L Course Frequency: Fall and Spring
