Performing Arts, Choral Music Concentration, M.A.T.

Program Requirements
- 45 credit hours including the following:
- 24 credit hours of core requirements
- 21 credit hours of specialty course work in the specific arts concentration
- Field Experiences: Candidates will also take specific coursework integrated with sequenced field experiences related to the instructional pedagogy of the arts including a semester long clinical practice capstone. The integration of fieldwork occurs before the full semester of clinical practice, spans two semesters, or one academic year and is specifically connected with the elementary methods and secondary methods courses.
- Teacher Licensure: Requirements for recommendations for licensure by the South Carolina Department of Education are described in the teacher education program information packet and the Clinical Practice Handbook. Successful completion of clinical practice requirements and passing scores on the Praxis specialty exams corresponding with the candidate’s area of concentration are two of the requirements for licensure recommendation. The Praxis specialty exams should not be taken prior to specialty coursework completion. It is the candidate’s responsibility to register for these exams and have scores sent to the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance and the South Carolina Department of Education.

Choral Music Concentration
In the area of Choral Music, the requirements for graduate study are specified by the NASM accrediting body and the requirements of the State Department of Education for teacher certification. Assigned field experiences total a minimum of 75 clock hours and are required during the music methods courses as indicated by an *.
