Sociology Minor

Minor Requirements

Credit Hours: 18

In addition to completing the requirements for this minor, students must also complete the minor requirements specified in the Academic Regulations  section of this catalog.

Complete one of the following:

A student may only receive credit toward the minor from one of these courses.

• SOCY 101 Introduction to Sociology (3)
• HONS 167 Introduction to Sociology (3)
• SOCY 102 Contemporary Social Issues (3)

Complete one of the following:

• SOCY 260 Big Ideas and Big Thinkers in Sociology (3)
• SOCY 271 Introduction to Social Research (3)
• SOCY 272 Making Sense of Sociological Data (3)

Complete at least 12 credit hours from

SOCY 103 -SOCY 499B . A maximum of 3 credit hours from SOCY 103  and SOCY 109  can count toward the electives and GPA for the Sociology minor.  Six credit hours must come from at least TWO different areas of concentration in the Sociology: Social Psychology (330s), Social Problems (340s), Social Organizations (350s) and Social Inequality (360s).

• No more than 9 credit hours from SOCY 381  may be applied towards the program requirements.
• No more than 6 credit hours from SOCY 382  may be applied towards the program requirements.
• No more than 6 credit hours from SOCY 383  may be applied towards the program requirements.
• No more than 12 credit hours from SOCY 399  may be applied towards the program requirements.
• No more than 9 credit hours from SOCY 490  may be applied towards the program requirements.
