Major Requirements


Credit Hours: 33+

In addition to completing the requirements for this major, students must also complete the degree requirements specified in the Academic Regulations  section of this catalog.

Courses within this major may also satisfy general education requirements. Please consult the Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Requirements  for more information.

Required Courses

*When topic is approved by the department chair to satisfy the subfield requirement.

Select an additional 21 credit hours in philosophy including:


  • 9 credit hours from DCSP 350 DCSP 395  , and PHIL 300-level or above;
  • plus an additional 3 credit hours from PHIL 200-level or above;
  • plus an additional 9 credit hours from PHIL 100-level or above for a total of 21 credit hours
  • at least one course from the “Value Theory Subfield” listed above.

 

Notes:


  • No more than six credit hours of DCSP 395 , PHIL 390 , PHIL 395 , PHIL 398 , PHIL 399 , PHIL 499A , or PHIL 499B  may be taken to satisfy the minimum requirement of nine elective philosophy hours at or above the 300-level. 
  • No more than 6 credit hours from PHIL 206  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 9 credit hours from PHIL 252  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from PHIL 301  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from PHIL 305  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from PHIL 315  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from PHIL 450  may be applied towards the program requirements.

Politics, Philosophy, and Law Concentration (18 credit hours)


A concentration in Politics, Philosophy, and Law allows focused attention on theoretical issues related to the law. The concentration is jointly administered by the departments of Philosophy and Political Science.
