Major Requirements


Credit Hours: 27+

In addition to completing the requirements for this major, students must also complete the degree requirements specified in the Academic Regulations  section of this catalog.

Courses within this major may also satisfy general education requirements. Please consult the Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Requirements  for more information.

Note:


Native speakers or students who have already achieved a high level of oral proficiency (to be determined by an oral interview with the instructor) will not be given credit for this course(s). Another course(s) will be required at or above the 300-level to fulfill the degree requirement with the approval of the German Studies Director.

Complete 3 credit hours from any GRMN 400-level course:


Elective Requirement


Complete 18 additional credits hours from any GRMN 300-level or higher course or from the following courses with no more than 6 credit hours from any GRST course, JWST 230, or JWST 330.

Proficiency Exam Requirement


Majors in German Studies are required to take a proficiency exam during their last year prior to graduation. Information about the nature of the exam and the schedule for each semester is available in the department and on its website.

Notes:


  • No more than 3 credit hours from GRMN 496  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from GRMN 498  may be applied towards the program requirements.

Coursework Meeting Major Requirements Excluded from the Major GPA Calculation


None.  All courses that may apply toward completion of course requirements within the major apply toward the major GPA calculation.
