Anthropology, B.S.


Major Requirements


Credit Hours: 33

In addition to completing the requirements for this major, students must also complete the degree requirements specified in the Academic Regulations  section of this catalog.

Courses within this major may also satisfy general education requirements. Please consult the Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education Requirements  for more information.

Notes:


  • *It is recommended that ANTH 210  be taken within the first 15 credit hours of the major.
  • Honors students can take the alternative course of HONS 168  in lieu of ANTH 202 .
  • Honors students can take the alternative course of HONS 169  in lieu of ANTH 205 .

Complete 9 additional credit hours from ANTH coursework.  No more than one 100-level ANTH course may apply toward this requirement.

Notes:


  • The number of Anthropology elective credit hours you must take may be fewer if you complete ANTH 493 Field School in Archaeology (3-8)  (8 credit hours) OR ANTH 494 Field Work (2-8)  to satisfy the capstone experience requirement for Anthropology. For example, if you complete the 8 credit hour ANTH 493 Field School in Archaeology , 3 credit hours will satisfy the capstone experience requirement and the remaining 5 credit hours will count toward your electives in the Anthropology major.
  • Students majoring in anthropology are encouraged to include courses in sociology, history, political science, international studies, psychology, economics, statistics and computer programming in their program of study.
  • The anthropology faculty very strongly recommends that anthropology majors take MATH 104 Elementary Statistics  or a higher level statistics course as one of the two math courses fulfilling the general education requirements. This requirement should be fulfilled as early in an individual’s program as possible and certainly within the first 6 credit hours after declaration of the anthropology major.
  • No more than 3 credit hours from ANTH 290  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 9 credit hours from any combination of ANTH 381 ANTH 384 ANTH 385 ANTH 386 ANTH 387 , or ANTH 388  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from ANTH 382  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from ANTH 383  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from ANTH 399  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from ANTH 490  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 3 credit hours from ANTH 492  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 8 credit hours from ANTH 493  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 8 credit hours from ANTH 494  may be applied towards the program requirements.
