Major Requirements


Credit Hours: 33+

In addition to completing the requirements for this major, students must also complete the degree requirements specified in the Academic Regulations  section of this catalog.

Required Courses


Broad Knowledge of Greco-Roman Civilization (6 credit hours)


Complete 6 credit hours from one of the following options:

Classics and World Affairs (6 credit hours)


Research and Communication Proficiencies (6 additional credit hours)


Multidisciplinary Approaches (9 additional credit hours)


Note:

Special topics in ARTH related to classical archaeology may count toward this requirement with permission of the Chair of Classics.

Note:

Special topics in HIST related to Greco-Roman history may count toward this requirement with permission of the Chair of Classics.

Complete 3 additional credit hours from the list of Approved Classics Courses


Courses used to satisfy the above requirements cannot be used below.

If the student has completed the equivalent of 202 in Greek or Latin, then credits earned in the other Classical language at the elementary and intermediate level(100-level and 200-level courses) will count toward the B.A. in Classics.

*CLAS 121  and CLAS 122  are travel courses. Students must be able to walk moderately difficult trails.

**GREK 496  and LATN 496  credit hours are assigned will be determined by the nature and extent of the reading.

Special topic courses in ARTH, CLAS, HIST, PHIL, and RELS will meet this requirement when the content focuses on Classics.

  • No more than 12 credit hours from LATN 390  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from LATN 496  may be applied towards the program requirements.
  • No more than 6 credit hours from LATN 498  may be applied towards the program requirements.

Coursework Meeting Major Requirements Excluded from the Major GPA Calculation
