About the Department

The Department of German and Russian Studies was established in 2006 and provides students with opportunities to study the language, literature, cinema and culture of German-speaking Europe and Russian in Eurasia.

America has many long-established social and cultural ties with the nations of the German-speaking world: Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Today, proficiency and cultural competence in German have become important for anyone engaged in international commerce, research, technology, and the arts. The Department offers a Major in German, a Minor in German, and a Minor in German Studies.

The Russian Studies Program is a multidisciplinary course of study combining the Russian language with courses related to Russian literature, culture, history, politics and business. The Program is designed to provide students with the language skills, cultural exposure, and historical background needed to understand and interact with the over 280 million speakers of Russian in the world today.
