Major Requirements

Credit Hours: 48+

In addition to completing the requirements for this major, students must also complete the degree requirements specified in the Academic Regulations section of this catalog.

Environmental and Sustainability Studies Core (21+ Credit Hours)

Interdisciplinary Environmental and Sustainability Studies (6 credit hours)

Experiential Learning Requirement

Each student must engage in substantial experiential learning related to Environmental and Sustainability Studies. Qualifying courses include ENVT 350 , ENVT 355 , ENVT 360 , ENVT 397 , ENVT 460 , ENVT 499A . The requirement may also be met with another relevant independent study, internship, research experience, study abroad, travel course, field course, or experiential course, with approval of the ENSS director.

Environmental Science Foundation (6-8 credit hours)

Complete 6 credit hours from two different disciplines from the following:

Honors students may take HONS 155 /HONS 155L in lieu of GEOL 103 /GEOL 103L .

Environment and Society Foundation (6 credit hours)

Complete 6 credit hours from two different disciplines from the following:

Economics Foundation (3 credit hours)

Honors students may take HONS 200 in lieu of ECON 200 .
Honors students may take HONS 211 in lieu of ECON 201 .

Quantitative Methods (6+ credit hours)

Complete 6 credits from the following to include at least 3 credits from DATA 101 or MATH 250 :

Honors students may take HONS 214 in lieu of DSCI 232 .
Honors students may take HONS 217 in lieu of MATH 250 .
PSYC 250 may be taken in lieu of PSYC 211 and PSYC 220 .

Qualitative, Spatial, or Mixed Methods (3+ credit hours)

Complete at least 3 credits from one of the following categories:

ENVT 350 or ENVT 499A may be applied to the Qualitative, Spatial, or Mixed Methods requirement when the content is appropriate, with approval of the ENSS director.
PSYC 250 may be taken in lieu of PSYC 211 and PSYC 220 .

No more than 3 credit hours of independent study, research, or Bachelor’s Essay may be applied to the ENSS major requirements.
No more than 3 credit hours from ENVT 350 , ENVT 499A may be applied towards the program requirements.
No more than 3 credit hours from ENVT 355 may be applied towards the program requirements.
Special topics, variable topics, and individual enrollment courses may be approved on a course-by-course basis.
