Geospatial Graduate Certificate Admission Requirements

Program Description

The Geospatial Graduate Certificate Program at the College of Charleston is supported and managed by the Graduate Program in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and is designed to meet the growing demand for professionals skilled in geospatial technology, an essential tool in industries such as environmental science, urban planning, business, public health, and more. This certificate program offers both foundational and applied courses to equip students with the technical and practical skills required to thrive in the rapidly expanding geospatial field. 

Admission Requirements and Application Deadlines

Institutional Admissions Requirements


  • A completed application form with a nonrefundable application fee of $60.
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework. An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • International applicants should refer to the International Students area within the “Admissions Information” section of the catalog for information on providing appropriate documentation with the application.

Program Admissions Requirements


  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.000 preferred.
  • Official transcripts showing bachelor’s degree earned from an accredited institution.
  • Professional or academic resume. 

Requirements for students currently in Master’s programs at CofC also pursuing the Geospatial Graduate Certificate:

  • Students must be admitted to EVSS’s Geospatial Graduate Certificate program, and enrolled in active degree-seeking status. All master’s admission requirements apply.
  • In order for both the degree program and graduate certificate to be conferred at the same time, students must be admitted to the graduate certificate program via an approved Secondary Certificate form prior to applying for graduation.
  • The secondary graduate certificate may be conferred prior to the conferral of the master’s degree.
  • Candidates must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00 in coursework presented on the certificate application for graduation.

Application Deadlines


  • Fall: February 1, priority; July 1, final
  • Spring: October 1, priority; December 1, final
  • Summer: No summer admission

Transfer Credit Policy

The Geospatial Graduate Certificate program does not accept graduate transfer credit from other institutions.
